‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 2 Episode 9 Recap: The Backstory Regarding ‘Katerina’ is Finally Revealed

Katerina of course refers to Katherine. In this episode we flash back to Bulgaria in the 1490s. Katherine lives in peace with her family until she has a baby.
Elena (Nina Dobrev) is hiding a secret and Stefan (Paul Wesley) is mad about it. It’s because she goes to Katherine in the tomb and wants to hear her family history. Back in the day Katherine saw her own family murdered, hence her vengeance about breaking the curse upon vampires.
When Klaus goes on a killing spree we learn why Katherine is so upset. Meanwhile, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) seem to have eyes for only each other, but then someone else comes in on their date. His name is Luka and he instantly has a connection with Bonnie. It doesn’t mean you have to not make out with a gorgeous vampire, though. Damon gets over his crush on Elena by sleeping with Rose.
Elena is having some trust issues because she’s torn apart. She’s in love with Stefan. She’s worried about everyone breaking the curse, and everyone she cares about is in danger because of her. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Recap: Ghost World
Talk about understatedly beautiful! This week’s episode of The Vampire Diarieshighlighted yet another town tradition: Illumination Night!

Frankly, I wasn’t thrilled about an episode devoted to bringing back guest stars, but these tertiary characters won me over with their truncated goodbyes, starting with Mason Lockwood (R.I.P. again).

While I didn’t miss Mason from last season, the levity he brought in this episode with Damon made me miss the bromance between Damon and Alaric. Killing the hybrid would save both Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev).
They go caving together after breaking through a wall: physical and metaphorical. Stefan’s best gal pal returns and knocks the hard-headed hybrid slave into a car window. She then chains up the vampire and begins her “time to save Stefan ritual” she’s done numerous times before. His ex-girlfriend tries to help and watch but she leaves when she sees how much pain he’s experiencing.
The Good Witches
The group of supernaturals figure out that the little liar Anna (Malese Jow) stole the all-powerful necklace. It’s the same necklace they need to send the ghosts back and close the door between the two world.
